Same thing happened to me. I was playing a game for a good 30 mins before this happened so I can't be that surprised, but still very interesting considering my old 3G never had that happen for the two years I owned it and I put it through a lot more than 30 mins of gaming.

iPhone 4 - Temperature Error Lock Up

So after a fun filled 3 hour wait in the reserved line @ the 5th Ave NYC store, then an afternoon of Mac'ing off with the new Apple phone, I got this error.

The phone had been sitting for at least 15 minutes, with nothing but an occasion text or short phone call for hours before hand - no heaving lifting with video or iMovie or anything. It rang with a call coming in, and when I tried to answer this came on, and the call was cut off.
The phone was not warm to the touch like it had been earlier in the day when playing around with video. After a restart the error went away....

Maybe I'll start with a software restore.... then back to Apple if it comes back. 🙁

Let's hear it if you've seen this message too!

Wow - never seen that before.

What temperature was it where you were using it? In a way this is quite clever as it would probably prevent all the my iPhone is burning stuff they had on the 3G phones.

In another its not great officially they say upto 35 Degrees......

The only times I've seen anything like that it was when the phone had been sitting in direct sunlight on the passenger seat of my car.

I've never seen anything like this before. What is wrong with it?

I don't mean this to come off sarcastic, but it's obviously too hot and needs to be left to cool down before resuming use.

It is summer, did you leave it on a window ledge in direct sunlight or on your cars dashboard, etc?

This must be a feature of the A4 SoC. The ipad does this too if you use it in direct sunlight.

scenario:

Your trapped in rubble (Haiti) and its hot as *******, you reach for your iPhone to dial for help.... lolololololol

The ipad also has a high temp shutdown. in the sun or heat for any duration they shut down with that.

my iapd did that once when i was sitting on my porch having coffee, and reading cnn
but i dont have to worry bout that with my i phone4,, it wont work outside when i hold it in my hand
