I was just wondering if there is an app that would let me turn on my macbook from it's sleep and put it back to sleep after i am done accessing it?

I believe there is an app called Power Off or something that shuts down computer. If your MB has WOL (Wake on Lan) capability then only you can turn it on (for which it must be wired through ethernet cable). I do not use Apple Laptops so I'm not sure if WOL comes integrated. If not, you have no option to turn it on over the air.
A remote desktop app you may like (which I highly recommend) is called Teamviewer. It's free for personal use and is probably the best one out there.

I use it on my iPhone 4 and iPad and can access my MacBook Pro. It's free and it's awesome.
