sound "glitching" in Final Cut HD

i'm completely new to final cut. when I add sound to a project it and play it back.. the sound glitches every couple of seconds. anybody have any idea what it could be?

chances are the sound file is MP3 correct?

convert it to AIFF or other type and listen to the smooooothness of the quality sound. 😉

THIS should do the trick.
 
You can also convert to aiff in iTunes. Remember to use 48Khz not 44.1Khz, as FCP will have to render 44.1Khz.
