Why are the user agents added to posts for people who post from their cell phones?

example:
Code:
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A306 Safari/6531.22.7)

If its to catch new apple stuff, wouldn't publicly displaying said info discourage those in possession of the device from posting anything?

Besides even if they didn't post, the site admin should be able to see what connects to the site anyway.

I just find it annoying to see mostly because it seems unnecessary and useless, plus I don't care what device/OS/browser people are using to post.

I think it's mostly to help explain to others why they may have so many spelling errors in their post. I find it useless too.

I find it cool because it tells you that they are on their mobile and thus you can more easily accept typos and other mistakes they have done. It could be just "Wirelessly posted" though

Yes, it happens when people post from the mobile version of the forums. I'm not sure if and how it could be removed, but I agree...it's kind of distracting.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; U; CPU OS 3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.21.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.4 Mobile/7B367 Safari/531.21.10)

Wonder if it knows the difference between the iPhone and iPad?

Edit: guess so. ;)
