Curious - with 60GB at our disposal and more on the horizon, is it possible to play 16 bit/44.1kHz (uncompressed) tunes on an iPod?

Yes, playing uncompressed aiff files on your iPod is a shure way to get less than an hour battery life. Uncompressed music files are too big for the buffer and force the harddrive to run constantly.

Using the Apple Lossless codec works well, it preserves the essential nature of the audio, but redices the filesize by as much as 50%, cutting down disc access and HD space useage.
What I really want is a 24-bit 96Khz capable iPod with an integral line output, so I can play mixes in native format. Never going to happen though.
