Hi All,
I have read plenty of threads about Raid 0 setups in Macbook Pros but most of those are with the older intel SSDs so i thought that i would put some info up about raiding the newer 256GB Crucial C300 drives
The task of installing them is a little nerve-racking but not difficult and took less than 15 minutes using a “Data Doubler” from OWC (same as the existing Optibay)
There are several threads showing how to transfer your data over but suffice to say you do this
1. Use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your HDD to an external HDD.
2. Remove your HDD and install the SSDs (one goes in the optibay)
3. Boot the laptop from the external HDD
4. Set up the SSDs in a raid using Disk Utility
5. Clone the external HDD to the internal Raid
6. Boot from internal raid.

Here are the results for me with the 2 Crucial C300 256GB SSDs
AJA System Test to test simple throughput
Xbench
Many people must wonder if the new OWC SSDs are better for this than the C300s so i got this info from Xbench comparing my C300s (in red) and another i7 17” with a pair of OWC drives in raid (in blue) (not sure which OWC SSDs this guy has used)
