I know it's similar to liamkp's thread, but I'm not trying to leech any posts. I just wanted to take a poll to see where the consensus is at. 😎 I know the poll isn't very concise, but our options aren't concise.

My vote: 2 cameras, A4, retina, iPad design, gyroscope, $199/$299/$399, base model 3G, base model 16 GB, Better battery life, 802.11n Wi-Fi

EDIT: Looking at the poll now, I see that I forgot to add a "camera flash" option. Just comment if you think this will be included.
 
One thing I'm surprised to see is that the pricing lineup is 100% agreed upon with 6 voters. I thought "other pricing" would be a commonly chosen option. I guess not...

If I were you, though, I'd add a "512MB of RAM" option in there as well. 🙂 (Edit: Never mind, didn't realize you couldn't add in poll options 🙁)

Edit: My vote was A4, Retina Display, Gyroscope, iPad design, $199/$299/$399, Base model 16GB 3rd gen, 802.11n WiFi, Improved battery life, Microphone and 2 cameras. (VGA front + 3.2MP rear)
 
I agree, thanks for the poll, first one I've seen with a ton of selective options, good work. There is a lot of features that could be put into the new touch.
 
A front-facing 1.3MP camera just like in the iPhone 4. 128GB is possible.

Retina display and A4/802.11n (2.4ghz) are shoe-ins, to keep up with iPhone hardware.

Probably a redesign to resemble the iPad (not the iPhone, e.g. no glass back).

Anything else, I'd be surprised.
 
I say: 2 cameras, A4, NO RETINA DIPLAY! (too expensive, but it IS possible, i say around 50%), iPad design, microphone, gyroscope (I'm 101% sure that gyro is gonna happen), 199$/299$/399$ pricing, 16 gb 3rd gen base model, better battery life, improved audio quality (through the speakers), 802.11n WiFi.

Colors in 2011 as a weak upgrade.

I agree that this is a nice poll, but ultimately, like many other threads here, this is just pure conjecture. We don't know what will be on the new iPod Touch until a new one is announced. Why keep beating our heads against the wall until we really know what the upgrade will be.

The camera will be on the new ipod 4g for sure. A friend of mine who has japanese friends just told me that in Japan they already have ipod touched with camera. Thats in fact how they take pics and upload them on facebook

He might have meant something similar to an iPod touch because we'd know if there were iPod Touches with cameras out there, and Apple wouldn't release anything in Japan only first (USA will always be first, as they are a US company)

Nevertheless, 2 cameras seems very likely because of the iPod touch + back camera found in Vietnam and the front panel with the front camera hole found elsewhere.

Gyroscope is a definite because the iPod touch is marketed for gaming.

GPS and Compass are unlikely as they'd just make the device expensive.

SD slot - good joke. Apple would never do this, they want you to replace your iThing every year, as new ones are released.

Retina display, not too sure. Does anybody know how much a current iPod screen is to replace? I believe Retina displays cost $150.

at the person who said that retina displays cost 150, not true, only about 29 bux. 150 is more like the whole cost of an ipod touch sans the memory.

Can't remember where I read it, but here they replace the front panel (panel + lcd + digitizer etc) for $175.

That, of course, includes the service, so it could be $100 or so, not sure.

I found on an other site it said $41 just for the LCD part but it looked pretty dodgy and described it as "Iphone Ipad LCD replace", haha.

16gb - $27.00
32gb - $54.00
64gb - $108.00
128gb - $216.00

Retina will happen, it is not expensive, it is also not an accessory, but it adds quality to the device itself.
 
Ah, ok. I was getting confused about prices because I was also posting in a thread about iphone parts, the front panel is $150 to buy a replacement part, but $28.50 for apple to manufacture.

Of course this amount doesn't include anything towards the cost for the labour and transport.

nevertheless, it sounds like, based on the cost, retina display in the next iPod touch is pretty likely.
 
3G and GPS are obviously not going to happen. Apple already has a device with those in it, the iPhone. 🙄 And SD card slot? 😀
Orientation lock is a given, as it's already a feature in iOS4.

I want the next Touch to have the same 5MP 720p capable camera as the iPhone 4. Put that in and bundle iMovie, and Apple has a true Flipcam killer.

That's very true.

As I stated in my first post, I just wanted to see where consensus was at for this issue.

And the SD card slot? I give that about a 0% chance of happening, but some people think it will.

Does anyone know anything about size restrictions? Based on the ipod touch's dimensions, is it even likely that a camera can fit in there? Unless Apple makes it larger (shudders at the thought). If they were to use the same size as the iphone (9.3mm) they could fit more ram or GB into it, but I'm dreaming again...

(sorry for off topic), but do any of the wilder claims (like a camera since things like A4 is likely) have harder evidence like the Gizmodo incident? I don't want to be crushed by about no camera again. Thanks

Well, it does explain why there isn't a 64GB iPhone 4. Those chips would probably eat into Apple's margins too much. Maybe next year.

There were strong rumors about a camera last year which got pulled out at the last second for some reason. If this is true there will be a space in the 3rd gen for a camera.

I don't want to be a pessimist , but rumors differ from facts. If there was something like the Gizmodo iphone, then I would agree more readily. The "leaked" ipods with cameras don't strike me the same way since they all are way to scratched up to be a newer prototype.

In my mind, I think it would be a good move for Apple. But, then again, I'm not the head of a multi-million dollar company.
 
It's my understanding that all the leaked prototypes with cameras were supposed to be the 3rd generation.
I think cameras are almost certain this time around.

I think we will have a camera, HONGKONG websites already have the lcd digitizer for it. Then again i guess they arent a completely reliable source.
