How to De-compartmentalize Macbook Pro

How do I de-compartmentalize my MacBook Pro? I have Windows XP and have compartmentalized my MacBook Pro. Can you give me step by step instructions on how to get ride of the Windows compartment? Thank you! Lisa

I have Mac OSX 10.4.11 2 GHz Intel Core Duo 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

I seem to be having problems with Boot Camp Assistant. It is not working. Do I need to download a new version? Please help! Thanks!

To remove Windows from your computer:

1. In Mac OS X, quit all open applications and log out any other users on your computer.
2. Open Boot Camp Assistant, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
3. Select “Restore the startup disk to a single volume,” and then click Continue.

Dividing a physical HDD in different volumes (Mac OS X on one volume, Windows on another, Data on another, ...) is called partitioning, the divisions are called partitions.

You forgot the first step: back up anything on the Windows partition that you want to keep.

I thought the OP would have already taken care of it, as she said, she wants to get RID of it, and honestly, I just copied and paste already existing knowledge with a link to the source, which has a warning on its site.

Warning: Make a backup of the important information on your computer before removing Windows. Windows software and all other information on the Windows partition will be erased.

hi i looked under applications, utilities and can't find boot camp assistant. can you help?

What Mac OS X version do you have?

Then you should have Boot Camp Assistant (BCA), but as it was still in "beta" in 10.4.x, BCA was disabled on December 31st, 2007.

Do you still have your restore DVDs? If so, try Pacifist and extract the BCA from the Boot Camp installer.

The other option is to use Disk Utility. On the left panel, choose your hard drive then in the right panel select the Partition tab. Click on the Windows partition (and triple-check that you have the right one!) then click the "minus" button underneath it to remove it.

If you decide to do that, post back here once you're done and we'll work on expanding your other partition to fill the drive.

Boot Camp Beta was a download only for 10.4, no? You would also have to set your date back to fool it since it won't run anymore.

Removing the Windows partition will remove (delete) Windows XP, as Windows XP resides on that Windows partition.
As Windows has been removed (deleted), VMWare won't be able to see or boot from the Boot Camp partition anymore.

Have you deleted the Windows partition? You can resize the Mac partition to fill the entire drive by using Terminal (in Utilities).

Type this command exactly as written (it might be best to copy/paste it):

sudo diskutil resizeVolume / 100%

That will prompt for your password, and will then resize the "/" (main) partition to fill 100% of the drive.
