Was the Quad-Core i5 27" iMac the right choice?

Just purchased the new 27" iMac quad-core i5. Am I somewhat "future-proofed" for the next 2 years or so? I probably could have lived with the i3, but wanted to have quad-core if it is going to be mainstream on all Macs in a year or 2.

Too bad that does nothing to prevent the attraction to new hardware😱 With this iMac design coming out last October, when do you anticipate the next hardware redesign? Seems like Apple goes with a 2-2.5 year cycle. So, Winter 2012?
 
No worries!!! You are doing great! I plan on buying a Quad myself very soon. (i5 or i7)

I'll be replacing a 5 year old iMac G5 with one these new machines shortly. The iMac G5 still gets daily use and is more than up to the job of basic day to day computing. I'd say you're most certainly future-proofed for the next couple of years and, based on my G5 experience, most probably well beyond that!
 
Thanks all for the comments. I figured the extra $300 for quad-core would be worth it in a year plus, even if the added cost stung a bit now😛
 
To be honest you should have gone for the i7 😛

Just yankin yer chain... I was at the local computer store and the apple guy ran up all the apps and showed me the i5 was still 80% idle. Now im not so stupid as not to know theres not a whole amount involved when the apps are just sitting open but it was still impressive to see the responsiveness when switching between them.

I am still running a dual core PC and about to make the switch to an iMac.. I have had the dual core machine for nearly four years and in that time I have been gaming, video editing, web design with Dreamweaver etc so I would expect your i5 to have a life of 5 years if you so wish it to!!!
