This be just what is needed to bridge the gap to acceptability with stem cell research. Dr. William B. Hurlbut, a professor at Stanford, has found a technique that doesn't destroy embryos. It will still create the needed stem cells for research.

That would be a great step forward if it proves viable. Stem cell research has potential and that should be explored responsibly.
Here in Australia our right leaning government had a policy of allowing research on stem lines but not human cloning, but today back-flipped and is now pushing a 'complete ban on human cloning policy, regardless of other stem cell research implications". They did this at the UN pre-empting a debate to review the current rules set to happen domestically next year.

Stem cell alternatives gain key support
They are working on two theories to overcome objections on the use fo embryoic stem cells fro the future. One is to create a stem cell without ever creating and embryo. The others is to declare the embryo dead, the same way the they do with a human prior to transplant of organs. http://www.boston.com/news/nation/ar...n_key_support/

Scientist are now investigating Stem Cells as driving force behind cancer. These stem cells seem to work the same way with cancer cells as other do with normal tissue. These cells resist normal chemotherapy. Money is being targeted now to target these cancer Stem Cells.
