Will they be out tomorrow?

So I first head whispers of August 9th on these forums. I was curious so I called the sales department at Apple and they said they had no idea, all they were told was some time in August. Then I went on chat a few days later and they said it will be out August 9th for order. I waited a few more days and realized it was weird that I got two different answers so I did chat again and they told my August 9th. Now that August 9th is tomorrow, I was getting very anxious and decided to do the chat again. This time, I got something different:

I'm saying August 9th. That's the only firm date I've heard since the Mac Pro announcement was made. No news [since then] is good news...

Either way, I'm going to be up until 5am tonight to study for an exam tomorrow... I'll be checking the apple store online every 5 minutes starting from 1-2am.

Haha I'll be checking it too. Good luck on the exam BTW!

I am really hoping it is tomorrow. I already have my Amazon cart ready and my OWC cart mostly ready. I would have it ready but they don't have 1333 MHz RAM up for MP yet.

Well I also heard over the Apple Store Chat that it will be August 9th, so it seems like a 50/50 chance to me.

The 1066 isn't officially certified for the 2010s either...although I don't know why it wouldn't work, and am tempted to order some anyway so I'm not running with 3GiB the first few days. Relevant chat transcript:

Code:
Chat Content:
William Friel: [1:29:39 PM] Welcome to our real-time support chat. How can I help you today?
Jason: [1:29:39 PM] RAM for 2010 Mac Pro?
William Friel: [1:30:05 PM] Hello Jason
[1:30:12 PM] We do not yet have this ram
[1:30:21 PM] since we have to test it on the computer
[1:30:32 PM] once the computer is released
[1:30:38 PM] we will offer the ram shortly after
Jason: [1:31:23 PM] Wouldn't RAM for the 2009 models work, (at least on the 2.8Ghz quad) since it is the same platform? (I know it wouldn't be tested)
William Friel: [1:31:42 PM] its actually a different speed
[1:31:52 PM] the new 2010 use 1333Mhz
Jason: [1:32:04 PM] I thought only the higher end models used 1333Mhz
William Friel: [1:32:31 PM] I was under the impression all the models did
[1:33:12 PM] well im not sure about that then
Jason: [1:33:17 PM] http://www.apple.com/macpro/specs.html Center of the page
William Friel: [1:33:38 PM] oh
Jason: [1:33:44 PM] Apparently, 1066 for the 2.4 octo and both quads, 1333 for the 6 and 12 core models
William Friel: [1:33:50 PM] okay then they should use the same ram
[1:34:13 PM] but if its not listed on the site
[1:34:26 PM] we cant gurantee it until they are released
Jason: [1:34:38 PM] OK. Thank you for your help.

Someone else should jump on and ask the same question.

It'd be funny if the same Apple Expert gives different answers

Just tried the chat line and got no answer..................... maybe the CS reps are busy boxing up the new MP's?

Possible someone saw the MacRumors article and sent down orders to clam up the reps.

Im hoping someone here has the knowledge to answer my question. I've heard that dual processors at a slower speed are sometimes faster than a single processor at a faster speed and vise versa depending on the type of work.

I do a lot of Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign work. I sometimes do AfterEffects and 3D work.

With that in mind, would a fast four core chip work well with 8 to 12 megs of ram and the stock video card? The upgrade on the video card isnt supported by aftereffects so I cant get the ATI.

Thanks in advance.

If your use is mainly those first 3, I'd say go with speed. There's always render mules for those times when you need extra cores. (actually, small render farms are a good argument for fewer, faster cores in general. Especially if your engine of choice is licensed by the core or is under a free license, instead of charging by the machine. That way there is no impact on software costs. You should probably still tally it up and think about performance in other apps, even if a SP box + a render mule means more render license $$$.)

Are you expecting the Mac Pro to be sold via iTunes?

No, he needs to construct additional pylons under his desk first.

On a related note (to MPs, not pylons) there should be some tool somewhere to just query the status of store.apple.com in various regions. Anyone know of one?
