Will I be able to use the calendar app icon for a 3rd party calendar?

I'm am using CalenGoo because I hate the native calendar app. However, Calengoo's icon just looks god-awful. Using the icon switching techniques that I've read on the forum, will I be able to insert the calendar icon into CalenGoo's application file and have the date and day of the week still change? Or is there something else I need to pay attention to here?

my gut feeling is no because i'd assume there's probably some other process running along with the .png file to update to the current date but there's only one way to find out
