SATA is newer technology that PATA (Parallel ATA, or just ATA), and it won't work unless you have a G5-based Mac (which you don't) or a PowerMac G4 and a SATA PCI card (which you don't seem to have either). SATA implements data transfer in a different and much faster way than PATA - however, modern hard drives can't take full advantage of SATA's speed just yet.deadfrog said:hmmmm... so whats the difference? and what am i looking for? basically id really like to get one today...

Buy any ATA-133 or ATA-100 drive. I'm a fan of the Seagate line - very quiet. Such as this one.

For firewire or USB external drives, it doesn't matter what type of ATA controller the system has since it isn't talking to the external drives.Dopeyman said:Can anyone confirm that I need the ATA/133 card to run and external drive?? TIA!
