What's the difference between the purple icons (without an arrow) and a gold icon (without an arrow)?

So a 'hot thread' is a thread with more than a certain number of posts, then?

Sorry, I didn't notice the icons at the bottom. I am stupid. Thanks.

Correct. I think it's more than 10 posts, and it's a hot thread.

Umm no? I think it depends on if you have read the thread. If you haven't read it, it is yellow. If you have, and it has new posts, then it is hot. I've seen non-hot threads with less than 10 votes.

Votes? Eh?

If you meant posts, I think you're right. I don't know, I guess we'll wait for WildCowboy to give one of his infamous descriptions of the workings of MacRumors :D

If you mouseover the icon at the bottom of a forum page, it tells you:

"More than 15 replies or 150 views"

Yes, once a thread exceeds 15 posts or 150 views, it becomes a "hot" thread and the envelope icon turns red/orange.

But given the amount of traffic we get, perhaps we should raise those thresholds...an awful lot of threads qualify as "hot" around here.

Yeah, these forums are pretty busy - in fact some of the busiest I've seen anywhere on the Internet.
