You shouldn't need to use TinyUmbrella to downgrade from 4.0.2 to 4.0.1.

1.) Ensure that you have 4.0.1 hashes on file with Saurik.
2.) Ensure that you edited your hosts file to point to Saurik's server.
3.) Shift-click (windows) or option-click (mac) on restore in iTunes and point it to the 4.0.1 firmware.
4.) If step 1 & 2 were completed, it should go through without a hitch.

If you click "Display SHSHs" in tiny TSS, does it say that 4.0.1 can be restored?

What is the exact name of the firmware file you are trying to use, including extension?

Tiny Umbrella Status

Thanks for your post...
Tiny Umbrella says SHSH hashs for 4.01 (8A306) can be restored
I am using Tiny UMbrella because their TSS server stops Apples server
Even with my edited host file,as below, it still goes to apple
so I must not have this correct
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
fe80::1%lo0 localhost
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

This may sound dumb but try restarting your computer. I kept getting an error last night til I read that I should try restarting every time after editing the host files and it worked. Good luck!

I'm having the same problem. My hardware is a Mac 10.6 and iPhone 4. I have done the same steps as first mentioned:

o.k. here are the steps Im taking to downgrade from 4.02 to 4.01
phone in dfu
tiny umbrella tss server started
in itunes-restore-option/click firmware 4.01 chosen
I get error 3002/ Iphone could not be restored, unknown error

I have also tried flushing the cache via Terminal.

I have also tried simply rebooting my computer. I have noticed that when trying to ping the gs.apple.com site it will either ping the local host or it has also pinged what I assumed was the saurik server but the IP was not the same as the one I entered in the hosts file.

Could someone please help? I have literally been trying to fix this for about 5+ hours and it sucks!

Thanks
