    Hi everyone,

If I buy a 1GB stick of RAM for my MB, will it be ok? I know you don't have to have matched RAM, but a lot of people have told me that I should match the RAM in the MB, because of the shared video memory. Is this true? Because I eventually want 2GB RAM in my MB, and don't really want to first buy 2X 512MB sticks, and then later have to replace them with 2X 1GB sticks. I would rather buy 1GB, and then later another 1GB.

So if I have 1.25GB RAM in my MB for a couple of months, would it be fine?

    Thanks!

There is a minor speed benefit to matched pairs -- I have read about 6% -- but 2 x 512 has a problem, and that is you are bound to have to pull the 512's out to upgrade any further.

The 1 Gb module has the small benefit of taking you to 1.25 Gb instead of 1.0, and you can look forward to 2.0 Gb when you can afford.

It all depends in what things you do on your MB.....yesterday I also updated to 1.25Gb of RAM. You'll notice a BIG (very BIG) boost in performance.:)

So you must definitely go for it, wasting money on two 512mb for later upgrading to 2 1gb is more than stupid.:D

    Thanks for the replies.

I found this RAM on Newegg, and I think I will just buy 2X 1GB sticks from them, seen as they are nearly a quarter the price of the RAM they try to sell me in South Africa:eek:

Will it be ok for my MB?

    PS: Does Newegg ship internationally?

Remember half your RAM must be official Apple RAM for your warranty to be valid.

if apple knows you have third party ram in your machine thay will make you take it out and put "official" ram in before thay will look at it or trouble shoot..

But it will most certainly not void your warrenty....

I would gladly pay a little extra for little "apple premium" RAM, but 500 dollars for two 1 gig stick when they could be gotten for 30 percent of the price.
