    Hey all,

I have a four-month-old PB G4 12" that has a couple of casing issues and I'm wondering what people's experiences with Apple repair has been on this. The first casing issue is that a little bit of the front paneling (that 1.5 cm strip between the palmrest and the bottom) on the right side has come away and flexs a few mm. Second, on the right side of the screen, the border casing has come a bit loose; it creaks a bit when I tilt the screen and has a 1-2 mm wobble.

Can you tell I'm a bit of a perfectionist? Still, since I bought it and its under warranty, it shouldn't do this, is my thinking.

So, (1) should I go to my Apple Store? (2) What standard do they seem to have (in others' experiences) for repair replacement? (3) What do they tend to do?

    Thanks in advance.

I have a similair problem to yours. I have a 12" powebook which, while in a protective case, fell on the floor. The front paneling on the right side is dented. The fall in no way affected the computer in anyway but the appearance. I am too somewhat of a perfectionist and would like to get it fixed. I am still under warranty and am wondering if I should take it to the apple store and get it fixed. Any replies would be appreaciated.

    Nice to see another Bostonian.

From what my friends have told me, Apple is pretty nuts about dropped casings. They won't do it under warranty coverage, but they will let you get it fixed on your own dime, if you like. I've heard all sorts of prices, from $300 to $700 for casing repairs due to owner events or being out of warranty.

I have the same problem, I tried to make a thread on it months ago when i purchased the pb (like a month after) and no1 could notice it from the pics. I never spoke to apple, cause altho it bothers me it isn't to bad, but now i also have some Werping, or wrapping i belive its called on the left hand side of my pb where an ethernet cord would be put in...(metal sticks out)..

either way, for your problem, i have found the reason is, since the right hand side has the battery, it is all one connected metal piece, on the left hand side, it is the grey strip, aluminum, while on the right hand side, due to the battery (if you push the aluminum between the grey strip and the battery, it should move in a bit actually) and this leads me to belive, apple makes it a bit allow or puts some space, and is more of a "strip" than full metal there.

I also went to the apple store, and sure enough, all the 12inch powerbooks had this, when i asked the rep, he said he didn't notice it till i brought it up. Leads me to belive that this happens after a month or so from the heat and it causes it to pull apart a little..and that is what you get..so imo, even if applecare were to fix it, i am almost positive it would continue to happen.

i too am a bit of a perfectionist, and although no1 notices it unless i point it out, it does tick me off, cause everytime i stare at it, i notice it.. but what can ya do i guesss.. :(
