12" Powerbook RAM

What is the most amount of RAM that they have ran in their 12" Powerbook?

I know Apple advertises 640mb, but other Apple system can use more than they advertise.

It's still 640 MB, but there are rumors of a 1 GB SO-DIMM coming out that would raise the bar to 1152 MB, if the hardware/open firmware will allow it.

Because the 12" has 128 MB Soldered onto the motherboard and only one slot for upgradable Ram, and since the largest chip on the market atm is 512 MB, the maximum, like Dave said is still only 640 MB.

1gb is the max in those machines. you gotta hve the money to buy the chip thought. since the 128chip is soldered on the motherboard there is 1 free slot, most poeple put a 512 in there. but you can put a gig chip in there.

would the computer actually take advantage of this "extra" ram or would it only utilize the maximum accpeted by apple which is 640mb?

Now the question is what is the cheapest price for 1GB of ram?

While the total amount would be 1152 MB of Ram, the computer would only see 1 GB. I think this is due to the motherboard itself (maybe firmware) although I am not sure.

By the way, the prices on those 1 GB DIMMs are like $700.

the machine itself is actually capable of handling up to 4GB of RAM, which is obviously never going to happen. i think it would be years before we see an affordable 4GB RAM module for a laptop. anyway, there are 1GB chips already available but they cost around $1000, the cost of a new iBook, or about 20 lap dances ath the nudie bar, if that's your thing. so yeah, for the average joe 640 is still the realistic limit but i'm sure there is some guy with money to burn who has a 1GB chip in his 12" PowerBook. the bastard.
