Apple Releases iTunes 10.5.2 with iTunes Match and Audio Distortion Fixes

Apple today released iTunes 10.5.2, an update bringing improvements to iTunes Match and fixes for an audio distortion issue experienced with certain CDs.

iTunes 10.5.2 includes several improvements for iTunes Match and fixes an audio distortion problem when playing or importing certain CDs.

The download is currently available via Apple's downloads page and the dedicated iTunes download page. It should begin rolling out to Software Update shortly. The full download weighs in at 102 MB for Mac, 66.13 MB for 32-bit Windows, and 68.01 MB for 64-bit Windows.

Apple launched iTunes Match in the United States with the release of iTunes 10.5.1 in mid-November.

i loved the premise but i had to turn it off. so many bugs with covers not showing up etc. got too confusing with everything looking/showing up differently on the iPad and iPhone

Its the weirdest thing ive ever experienced. all covers r perfectly tagged on my computer and show up with covers yet some dont show up in album view on the iPad, but show up on the iPhone OR the do show up in album view but dont show up on the Lockscreen OR they do show up on the Lockscreen but not anywhere else OR they dont show up but after listening to the same cd a few times the covers r suddenly there OR OR OR ...

Why is the Mac version substantially larger than the Windows version?
Is it because the Mac version is a Universal App, or because the Windows version shares DLLs while the way Mac apps are packed?

EDIT: I just answered my question: It is a universal App! Apple should give us the choice to download an Intel only package for Mac!

It has never ceased to amaze me that Apple iTunes updates are not only incredibly bloated (100MB for a few fixes), but that they are almost twice the size of their Windows equivalent.

What does this tell us? Two things:

1. Apple is total crap when it comes to partial updating of their software. Sure it is simpler to just make everyone download another 100MB file, but is 100MB really necessary for a few bug fixes?

2. Mac software is bloated compared to Windows, even after they have made a new GUI set for Windows to give it the Mac look. In this vein I should add that Apple insult Windows users by forcing their UI upon Windows users (imagine if MS Office looked like Windows 7 on a Mac).

iTunes is bloatware and horribly slow. It often fails to tell the user that files have not been copied when by all appearance they have been. Apple should invest some of their 80 billion dollars to employ some better programmers and testers then perhaps iTunes could be a lot better, and they may also fix the sleep and WIFI problems that 1500 forum postings have complained about.

Am I misunderstanding this...? I thought your device had to be plugged in somewhere in order to sync over Wifi.... From the release notes:

You can rematch right now, but you do the entire iTunes library, not just an individual track.

iTunes Match is a great concept and I'm happy with the basic features. But it still needs some polish. My biggest gripes are on the iOS side. Performance of dealing with it in the iOS Music apps on my iPhone 4 and original iPad are terrible.....laggy laggy laggy performance (the iPad version of the app is just terrible in general and sometimes crashes on me...it never did that before). I've seen download error messages an iOS user should never see (like error code numbers). Now, I have a large library (nearly 19,000 tracks), but if the upper match limit is 25K songs, then the performance should work well on my library.

Other issues include that automotive connectivity doesn't really deal with iCloud very well. There isn't any way for an auto system (like my wife's Mini Cooper Countryman) to understand that there is a much bigger library that it can access, not just the locally stored songs. GM cars have the same problem. Not sure how you solve that.

Hope this addresses whatever was making iTunes Match crash everytime. I manually have to turn off iTunes Match everytime I open iTunes. If I forget, iTunes will crash in about 2 minutes. Apple has gotten plenty of my error logs and from the forums, I wasn't alone.

It is Intel-only. It's Intel 64-bit/32-bit.

Sorry, but you are completely wrong:

1. This package is a full install package, not an incremental update.

2. The reason why is large is because the package bundles both the PowerPC and Intel versions of the App.
Otherwise it would be about the same size of the windows package, even smaller as most Mac OS X apps don't require a special installer program like Windows programs do.


I don't understand why you would what could have been a good post, talking non-sense; but hey, everyone has the right to give their opinion. The problem is that your comment is making you look really bad.

I hope the matching is better. I can match a song, download it, delete it and then add it back to my library as a matched AAC file but then it uploads like it can't match.

Also I have spent a ton of time since getting this service re-ripipng songs only to have them not match when I know they are in the iTunes store.

Apparently not. The package is including both Intel (32 & 64-bit) and PowerPC versions.
The included read me file for the package says:
