Great, with 17% how much battery you have left now? (hrs)

The time remaining always fluctuates a bit, but I think last I saw was about 1:20 remaining. The time I have been tracking though is actual usage and then projected time. Mostly web browsing and office and a few benchmarks, TimeCapsule backups, and videos.

So you are getting close to the 9 hours, is this an i7 or i5? I'm inclined to say that the i5 gets a little better battery but not a huge improvement.

I just bought a 2013 MBA 11" base model yesterday that I am trying out. Running a battery test as well just tracking while browsing the web, email, light iTunes, and some MS Office apps, and wireless Time Machine backups in the background. Only played a couple short videos.

One thing I notice is that Coconut battery is offset, and probably more accurate, than the % remaining that Apple is reporting. Mine didn't move off of 100% for a long time.

Before testing, I had performed the full TM backup and ran the battery down to 5%. Fully recharged it, let it sit charged for another hour, then tracked at different intervals while browsing.

I have WiFi and Bluetooth both on, brightness at 10 dots and keyboard at 2 dots.

Here's where I am at right now for the testing and % remaining. I'll update as I use it more.

Hi,

Just came across all the messages about battery life and heating for the i7 version thanks a lot for all your comments.

I m right to the point to order an 13 with maximum specs 8g, 512ssd, and i7 but like others I m confuse and I want to be sure that the i7 version worth it especially if it didn't reduce the autonomy and about the heating.

I can't believe that in the world wide wide web not computer site have made a dedicated test to the macbook air i7 version.

Still keeping my credit card warm and hoping for some news.

;-)

After I run it down tonight after work, I can re-charge it up and have it play video or something overnight. I certainly don't have 10 hours straight to burn in front of it. Are there any good battery test loops or programs that can run to tax it continuously for a long period of time?

Yes there are programs, try running a 10 hour long youtube if there's any :(, forgot the names of the programs :( sry...

So far i have NOT SEEN MUCH POSITIVE things about i-7 (be it less battery life)...and heat issue ? anyone ? LOUD FANS ? I know that i-7 is reporting faster performance but that can be due to 8GB RAM.....

Anyone compared a i5/8GB ram to i7/8GB ram and tell us the results on battery....heat....fan ???

I-5 is WINNING in 11 inches so far....

Slept on it... I'm still glad I ordered a base i5/4GB/256 last night.

Don't want to make you doubt but if I were I would have been on the 8gb ram at least. From what I have read it's obvious that the 8 gb ram is very useful.

It's not about winning or loosing. Both processors are designed for different purposes. The i7 gives you about 10-20% more CPU speed depending on the application. Encoding a song in itunes takes about 60 sec. on i5 and 52 sec. on i7. That's the difference. The i7 gets slightly hotter and due to it's higher scaling frequency it will drain the battery slightly faster than the i5.

You should study some specs before asking blindly:

It's not my main machine. 4GB is just fine considering that I have a powerful desktop.

I just want the best battery life with as little heat as possible. The base model seems to give that.

Or maybe I'll just keep the i7 model that I ordered last week and see how that goes when it comes.

What's the verdict on battery life/heat/fan?

Here is something...

http://www.mobiletechreview.com/u****reads/showflat.php?Number=44852

English isn't my native language and I have to leave my work now so I would be grateful if someone could give some feedback of the vid :)

They are not comparing both, that's what we need, an extensive comparison between both laptops.

It looks like other reviewers are getting about 13 hours in the i5 and here they are getting 10-12.

'while most reviews cover the 1.3GHz Intel Core i5-4250U, yet battery life is still amazing. We're talking 10 to 12 hours! "

If you're planning on upgrading your laptop in a year or even two, the i5 will do you just fine. However, if you plan on holding onto your MBA for several years through multiply OS updates, the i7 is just a little bit more future proof.

I fit into the latter category and thusly ordered my 11" MBA last Monday i7/8GB/128GB. It arrived yesterday with an 85% charge. After charging it back up, I installed OS X Mavericks, a dozen apps from the App Store and elsewhere, streamed music in iTunes and browsed the web all afternoon.

After five hours of heavy use, I still had 40% charge left. I left it unplugged overnight and this morning installed an Xcode beta, bringing it down to 37%. It was reporting 3.5-4.5 hrs this morning (waivered based on current tasks and such).

The computer never once got hot to the touch and the fans never kicked on. I never noticed any kind of slowdown. Anecdotedly, the one thing I noticed was how much faster the Xcode .dmg opened on the Air than my Mac mini (Sandy Bridge 2.3 GHz i5, HDD).

In my opinion the i7 is well worth the cost.

Yes! That sounds incredible. 5 hours of heavy work and 40% left? Wow.

Can't wait for mine.
