There are way too many great Bond films to put down. I love the majority of them. I can't seem to pick out just 3 of them.

You know, I thought there was a Casino Royale title out there for a Bond movie but my husband said that there wasn't. Isn't that the name of the new one coming out with the new James Bond?

Never mind, it was just a spoof of the James Bond movies with David Niven...there was also an american version for TV with Barry Nelson. I just looked it up.

Yeah, as noted, that one wasn't an "offical" James Bond film. Plus it was a remake of Thunderball.

Personally, I liked You Only Live Twice (in addition to the obligatory Goldfinger). Ninjas and volcanos and bubble cars on tracks.. how can you not like that?

There are a lot of top films in that list (as well as some not so top ones), but for me Goldfinger and The Man With The Golden Gun come out on top.

We're plotting a trip to see Casino Royale, and I'm rather looking forward to it.

David Niven wrote a terrific Hollywood memoir called "Bring On The Empty Horses." Definitely worth reading if you're interested in the Golden Age of Hollywood and guys like Bogart, Erroll Flynn, Clark Gable, etc.

That's when the series went from straight to silly. But it's hard to argue with Jaws and his girlfriend.

I've voted for Dr. No as it's the only one that I can remember. All of the other Bond films have merged into one in my memory.

That movie certainly got the series off to a great start, but I just can't vote for one that didn't have Desmond Llewelyn in it!

I am, I loved that era. Too bad I wasn't alive then. That is when movies were movies! I will check it out.

Not easy to just pick 3, but I do have a kind of fondness for the ones at the beginning of the 80s:
* For Your Eyes Only (Roger Moore)
* Octopussy (Roger Moore)
* Never Say Never Again (Sean Connery)

That's just when I was old enough to really appreciate Bond...

Bah, this poll has no credibility!

Guess I'm in the minority in liking "The Living Daylights," one of the few Bond films (and actors) to portray the gritty aspect of Fleming character from the novels.

But then I doubt if many people viewing the films have an appreciation of the written works of Fleming.

Funnily enough, in spite of liking the silly films, I do rather like the books in all their sensibleness. I remember reading On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Thunderball and very much enjoying them (in spite of great perviness for a small girl to be reading), especially as my dad had these fabulous old paperbacks and the Thunderball one had bullet holes in the cover.

But this thread is about films. As you were.

He wrote "The Moon's A Balloon" first, which in my view is even more entertaining. Of course you have to realize that his amusing stories did not necessarily reflect the real events, but the books do make excellent reading.
For those interested in Niven I can also recommend Sheridan Morley's biography of Niven The Other Side Of the Balloon.

I have never understood the mass obsession with the James Bond films. I could never get into them, along with the Star Wars films.

I'm curious: Was the GoldenEye videogame successful because people thought the movie was a great one? Or was the movie made more popular, especially in hindsight, because it happened to have a very successful videogame (considered one of the best N64 games)?

GoldenEye is currently #2 in this poll, behind its fellow gold-themed movie Goldfinger.
