The second server is online. The main site (Macrumors.com) is transitioning to it over the next 24 hours.

Let me know if there are any glitches/problems.

Yeah, last night was a bit rough. Glad to see things are getting smoother, though.

we'll see... it'll take some tweaking to get the servers balanced...

there is no real automatic "load balancing" going on here. The site has two logical divisions (macrumors and the forums), each with it's own profile - macrumors.com gets a lot of traffic, but requires less load, the vbulletin forums take a fair amount of resources, with less traffic.

I'm really sorry to take this off topic....but I just can't help it, what made the posting legend that was 'dukestreet' change his name after all this time? ....BTW nice choice though ;) "Only human..."

To avoid having this pop up in more than one thread (well, its already come up a couple times) I'll post in the community section to explain it.

So far everything is working great.

    Good job!:D

edit: does this mean macrumors doesn't have to go into the 'low powered/text-only' site when WWDC other major events occur?

Probably will still need to go into low-power mode... but there's a slim chance the forums could stay up.

As most of the reload-abuse hits the main site (front page).

Seems to be running well, other than an busy message or two midday.

Still having the forums up during WWDC would be interesting. That record for most simultaneous users would be in danger...

    Hey Arn,

I noticed today that my post count went from 180+ down to 133. I ran this by Eye and he said it may be due to moving to the new server. Is there any way I can get those numbers back? I dont really post much, but would like to, one day, obtain an avatar :)

I dont remember what my actual post count was before, just something over 180... Thanks.

Seems to be running smoothly, I saw close to 700 people on the forums today at once.

Anyone notice slowdowns/busy messages mid day (eastern time)?

I have always wondered how the site handled the 1112 people on-line last July when it was having timeout issues with half as many people....

    Just wondering what I missed July 22, 2002 at 12:17pm. :)

The site runs on two Linux Boxes. A dual P3 and a single P3.

    Hmmm.

Darn. No Xserves? I'd love to get a first-hand account about people using them.

Seems to be running much better now, Arn. Haven't had one busy signal so far.

glad to see no itanuims - we would have issues regarding anything on here.

sorry - i just believe that intel has twice rsuhed its 64bit solution to market- like the P4 - just to beat AMD.

i hate itanium - 970 all the way.

ps - why not get a big fat Quad-Power4 Linux server (X440 maybe) from IBM and be done with it?

I've been getting quite a few busy messages this morning (during the last hour).

Also, I noticed that I couldn't access the main page at all when I first came online, but it's there now.

To the previous posters, you have just witnessed the MacRumors "Rush Hour".

Dare to post, and you will be cut off by the idiot in front of you. I doubt he has anything intelligent to say either.

Macrumors was slow a few days ago, but it was only for about 5 minutes. For dial-up users, such as myself, I feel like the guy behind the idiot in the fast lane.
