Does anyone know if they're using a standard 3.5" hard drive in the new Intel MacMini? I believe they said its the same form factor, but mentioned nothing about the hard drive except for the larger capacity and the fact that it's now SATA instead of the old ATA interface.

If it was a 3.5" desktop drive they would be offering bigger capacities. 120Gb is the maximum size for a laptop drive.

I would assume that they are 2.5" SATA drives, but it looks like all of them are 7200 rpm. From the "learn more" link

Every other spec sheet on the minis says that they're 5400 rpm...I'd trust that spec over a single mention of 7200 rpm.

I figured this much, but I was hoping they would've made the switch over to a 3.5" It makes so much sense, they could really do it if they wanted. It'd be awesome to have the ability to upgrade a little and possibly have a nice cheap little server.

It would be nice but they wanted to keep the form factor so they had no choice.
