Making those soul crushing next/jump/more whatever plans where you pay off the phone slowly over 12-24 months seem like a good idea.

With how fast the iPhone 5/5C (A6 proc) is I think we're finally getting to a point where the hardware has outpaced the software enough to not feel slow after the OS updates.

My phone is paid off and unlocked, I'd just have to sell first. I'm consolidating the iPad and phone into one device, hence my choice for the 5.5". And if there's a 128GB option, it all works out for me.

- iPhone 5s becomes the $99 iPhone. Only available in Gold.

- iPhone 6 4.7" $199/16GB etc. Sticking with Black iPhone and Gold iPhone.

- iPhone Air 5.5". $349/ 32GB etc. Black, Gold, and Product (RED) edition. Also the introduction of the iPhone Air Smart Case only for the iPhone Air.

- no "iWatch". New product category but not a watch.

- refreshed iPod lineup only by color except iPod Classic, finally retired. Top end iPod touch now 128GB and 802.11ac wifi added. Current 16GB to disappear. iPod touch will now have 16GB/32GB/64GB/128GB. Priced from $179.

- Apple TV refresh. A8 processor, 802.11ac, and an MHL version plus a new Apple MHL cable obviously.

why iphone 5s gold only? pretty sure that's the worst seller.

If there's another gold, I hope it's not at the expense of a simpler white. IMHO the gold 5s is the tackiest iphone sold to date (yellow 5c is close). I know many people like it, but it's very polarizing.

$349 on-contract entry point??? Let's hope not.

My prediction. 4.7 is available right away and 5.5 is available and ships in a week. There will be supply constraints for a while but there's no way they delay it for months.

I've never owned an iPad or iPhone but a 5.5 iPhone could kill two birds with one stone. It's just about big enough to use as a lounge device for browsing on the couch, which is the only reason I see to own an iPad. Laying down on a bed or on a couch is the only place the tablet form factor really shines to me over a laptop.

5.5 inch iPhone, 12 inch retina MBA, and a 27 inch retina iMac sounds like the perfect setup with no device overkill. In a couple years that will be mine...

You do realize it will probably have the same resolution as the 4.7" model...

So what? The main reason for a bigger screen is bigger content. Resolution doesn't matter as long it's ~350 PPI.

This sends a very strong message to consumers, especially the ones that don't follow tech, that bigger is better, bigger is more expensive, bigger is premium. By this logic Galaxy Note > iPhone 6 because it has a bigger screen.

I am fine Apple launching two size variants as long as both would have a sapphire crystal display. I think it would be a bit unfair if both are flagships of Apple this year when only the 5.5 will have a sapphire display. Since according to some 'analysts' only the 5.5 will be launched having the new display technology.

I've got to be honest and say that I was all ready to move from my 5S to a 4.7" i6.

However, I do find myself warming to a 5.5" model...

I've never used a phablet and I probably don't do enough 'long periods of looking' at my 5S screen to really benefit from a 5.5", but when has that ever stopped us!?

If Apple doesn't launch both models at the same time, they'll just have to deal with returns from those who couldn't control themselves and wait, bought the smaller size but then decided to go bigger.

Not if the 5.5" launches past the maximum time for returns they won't.

That will be great, so I can test both on site and decide which one is best for me... So far I'm leaning toward the 5.5 version because I tend to use my current phone as a mini tablet a lot more than an actual phone...

That would make hell a lot of sense lol. They can make the bigger version available later this year but the announcement will be on the same day.

I also believe the sapphire display will be either on both or not at all. The bigger version is not the main focus for Apple!
