And you're thinking this makes a difference how?

I seem to remember you were, ah, on forced leave from MacRumors for a while ;)

But since your return, your posts have been significantly improved.

    D :D

Hey, I'm new here and I don't understand the numbering scheme.... there's no way you guys have 68,000+ posts here!!!

So what do those number mean, and when does it change for new users like myself? Thanks! :D

It first changes to 6502 when you hit 500 posts and again to 65816 when you hit 1000 posts. I'm not so sure after that, but I know it hits 68000 eventually.

Not sure what the numbers mean. Hmmm. Arn?

Were did 65816 come from anyways??? Thought Apple went directly from 650C2 to the 68000 line of processors...???

    apple I - 6502
    apple II - 6502
    apple II plus - 6502
    apple III/III plus - SynerTek 6502A
    apple IIe - 6502
    apple IIc/IIc+ - SynerTek 65C02
apple II platinum - SynerTek 65C02
apple IIgs - Western Design Center 65SC816 (2.8MHz when not in backwards compat mode)

western design still puts out this processor. i think this is the only time Apple went with this company for their CPUs. the Apple II line and Macintosh line were parallel entities for a while, with one using the moto proc and the other running off older more anemic processors.

I find it odd that you are a 68010 at 2000 posts and then FIVE
    posts later you are a 68020. ;) :p

MOS Technologies put out the original 6502 processors and Rockwell, the 65C02. There was also a 65802 from WDC which was pin-compatible with a 6502 and could be dropped into many 6502 machines.

Btw, the Appie I had a switch to use the Motorola 6800 and only used the 6502 because it was about half the price ~$160 v. ~$350.
