I have several pictures, but need webspace. here is about my mac.

The kernal version is dated July 27th, which is kinda odd, but it required 10.2 to install on, and changes all build numbers to 6d42. System profiler and about this mac both report 10.2.1

The installer is 11.4 MB. I have a screen shot of the installer as well. I will post what I can.

Wow, you've posted a lot of pics...I hope I'm not interupting!

I sorely hope these are not photoshopped...that said...

The only weird thing is the date...why would they have the update 10.2.1 before 10.2 was released...and when it was still a developer seed? Maybe its a typo...maybe not...

    Interesting though..;)

Do you not think that they started making the next update the moment or before they were done with 10.2. This is standard practice and the only way you can turn out products like this in reasonable amount of time. They've been done with the main programming for probably a couple months and have mainly been debugging this doesn't require there entire staff of programmers to do so they start on the next update knowing what they will not finish on this version already.

The reason why the kernal is dated July 27 is because in this update they did not change the kernal. This is the same kernal for Mac OS X version 10.2

i really dont know what has changed. I tried ftp using connect to server and i still didnt get write permissions.

IE has a "aqua blue" option for the buttons. Is that new? I never really change the IE colors, so i dont know if that has been there or if its new.

The system preferences options also appear to be unchanged.

What is the 10.2 version # of mail? and calculator?

    This has mail 1.2 v544/543
    iChat 1.0 v51
    sys pref's 2.1
    addressbook 3.0.1 v211
    calculator 3.0

    Re: UMmmm

that information would go in the screen that i captured above. It says something about marketing. Its not a final build, so it doesnt have bug fixes/extra features added into it yet

Metfoo, I noticed your running this on a G3 600mhz - I presume the classic iMac. How are you finding Mac OS X 10.2 on there in terms of performance. Does it seem sluggish or is it coping okay? Reason is, my friend, who is on a limited budget wants to get an iMac for her kids and for her to do some word processing etc. I want to know what to expect. This is her first mac - a switcher!!!! but I don't want her to be running up a hill coated in treacle. Thanks

I'm running 10.2 on a 400mhz G3 w/ 386MB of RAM. Jaguar runs good enough on my mac. Nothing really flies, but it can browse the web, get mail, listen to music, chat, and run a word processor with enough snappiness to not make you want to pull your hair out. A slightly faster G3 with around 512MB of RAM should do the job you want out of it pretty well.

edit: i forgot to mention that i have all those operations on at the same time. If she isnt as much as a multi-tasker, a good G3 is more than enough.

i installed this same build the 24th hoping it would solve some of the major problems in 10.2. it didnt seem to fix any of the bugs that i have been tracking though (smtp, ftp, finder windows, screen artifacts, etc).

it seems to be making changes to the framworks and library systems. but just looking in package contents like this doesnt tell us much more than that.

the creation dates on the package is the 20th, the read me files metfoo showed us were created the 12th and 14th. Most of the files have creation dates of 20th.

why would you want an update that wasn't even ready for release? wouldn't that cause more harm than good?

you know as long as ive been here it still surprises me when someone says something like that. i mean why are you here if you dont want to hear about rumors? why are you readinga thread about an os update if you dont think its worth it? this is a rumors site. if you cant deal with that then please go somewhere else and stop reading about rumors here and insulting people who want to discuss rumors. why you feel compelled to read things and comment on things you dont understand and arent interested in just makes no sense to me.

hey.. i juss got a copy of the updarte..

by a little sleuthingg i figured this out..

within the update there are slight updates to

    mail
DiscRecordingLib (In the cfm support folder, im assuming this gives more burner support)
    AppleFileServer
Classic Startup (classic has already been greatly improved upon in jaguar.)
SystemUIServer (probably the info box for 10.2.1)
SecurityAgentPlugins (looks substantial, includes kerberos 5 auth file)
    AppleAltivexDVDDRiver.bundle (maybe dvd burning updates..)
    AppleGMACEthernet.kext (ethernet drivers)
    ATIDriverUpdate
    ATIDriverUpdate.plist
    GeForce2MX.ndrv
    GeForce2MX.ndrv.plist
control.ndrv (this fires up more rumors between apple and nvidia help, and may explain why certain ppl are experiencing faster GUI speeds..)
    ATIRadeon.kext (more radeon drivers)
    ATIRadeon8500.kext

There are a slew of more updated video drivers including a geforce3 drive and an atirage128 driver.. if anyone is interested in more of this sort, pm me..

DiscRecording.framework (again, a disc recvoirder update..)
    Message.framework (possibly iChat? or renevous?)

there is an update rehash and openssl..

mod_hfs_apple.so (looks like an apache plugin..)

there are about 10-15 files i didnt cover, but this kind of shows what this update may do..

    -f

[edit] you can see all these files by downloading a program called openup, and uncompressing the file called "Archive.pax.gz" which is contained within the archive, hope this is of some use to you guys.. :D [/edit]
