I was given a box of old 8mm tapes from someone to convert to dvd. I dug out my old sony video8 handycam, but the bugger no longer works. I've been looking for an 8mm tape player(like a vcr but plays 8mm tapes instead), but for the life of me I can't find a single thing. I know they used to exist - I've seen them before. Anyone have any clue? I need to play these tapes through a player-into my digital camcorder(mini dv) - then to my mac.

Or maybe even a place to buy a dirt cheap video8 camcorder? Arrgh I'm frustrated.

Garage sales usually work for 'dirt cheap'... or maybe pawn shops? At least, (unlike ebay) you can try it out in the store before you go. Won't get a better deal.

Maybe try craiglist too for someone in your area looking to get rid of their stuff.
