A survey of Dock substitutes and other launch utilities

    I'm with John over at Ars's discussion boards ... DragThing was wildly underrated. It's a clear 9/10 solution.

    Personally, I use DragThing and QuickSilver. One works with the left side of my brain (logical location for everything) and the other with my right (totally abstract free-association launching, yeah!). Together, I effortlessly flip open my apps when I want them.

    IMHO, it's like Google and your browser's bookmarks. Except QS is a hell of a lot more intelligent than Google. And DragThing is a hell of a lot more organized than bookmarks.

    Agree with the reviewer, Quicksilver is the definitely the way to go!

    I switched from LaunchBar to QuickSilver due to that article. I like the plugin architecture (installed the Dict plugin) but otherwise I don't find it all that much better than LB... except that it's freeware.

    so you guys have disabled the dock, and moved out the app?

    hmm? oh, no i keep my dock, But i rarely use it!
