iOS About IM Application

I've just got started with iPhone SDK for 3 weeks.
I want to write an IM application like Agile, Fring... My first approach is to connect and chat with yahoo. I'm now just familiar with basic iPhone programming.
Can you please tell me how to connect with yahoo server using the API, some info like which port, socket...
