    Guys,
I am wondering if this is normal? I was going around in my finder window and then when i clicked on the network and entered the servers, i found out that there is something weird. There is an icon after entering my servers. Ironically, the name of that thing is like JAY-LAPTOP, which isn't my name. I am wondering if this is right or what? If not, how can i fix it? Since I know someone whose name is Jay and i am wondering if it is he who connected my computer with his or anything. Thanks

That means someone is on the same network as you are, and they have sharing enabled. If you have a wireless network, thats probably a bad thing. If you're at a university, it would not be unusual to have 10 or 20 people show up there (depending on their setup).

Thanks for your response. However, I am not connected to the internet thru wireless or thru the school's network. I am just connected thru a normal ethernet connection. Therefore, I think it's weird to have that icon.
So anyone knows how to fix it? Thanks

Tell me, is is picture number One that you are wondering about, or is it when you click on Servers, and you get what I have in picture number two that you are wondering about. The second pictue, is actually your computer name. Go under System Preferences, Sharing, and change the name at the top. If what you are talking about is in the first picture, then its someone else on the network. So the question is how are you connected. You say LAN but that could be a corporate network, or cable modem, or dsl, or just to a local LAN with no Internet. What is the connection?

I was talking about the second picture. the name of that icon is jay's laptop but my computer's name is different, which is stanley's computer. So it's kinda weird, but when i clicked the jay's laptop, I was directed to my HD. Thanks for your input by the way

    no
i am the only user and this is a new computer, which i bought two months ago. I don't recall seeing that until recently. I happened to know someone named jay and he came to my place with his laptop like two weeks ago. Could that be the reason?
