I am having no luck in a search for some music that sounds academic. I am doing a video that will start with images of our school (students learning attentively, trophy cases, teachers, etc.) I need some good maybe almost march like music to accompany it, so far my search has been entirely fruitless. Any ideas?

Ick, I feel sorry for people who have to sit through that for their graduation, I mixed a version of ZZ Top's La Grange for mine.[IMG]

I have a week or two, and yeah Pomp and circumstance is the feel I want, but that piece is too cliche, and so is God Save the Queen, I want something that is not "popular"

I really like the piece "Fanfare for the Common Man" by Copland...though it's been used quite a bit in military contexts...

how about the theme from "The Last Starfighter" ? It has been used in many promos and trailers for movies and TV, might not fit what you want though. It is pretty heroic.

Don't do Fanfare but do try listening to some Copeland, see if any of that fits. Most of it isn't 'march' type music, but there is some more upbeat... and for the love of god don't use Rodeo: Hoedown...

To build on Choppaface's post, what kind of mood are you looking for specifically, because classical music can fit just about any mood that isn't "silly".

    Possibilities:
"Danse Macabre" (a bit over-the-top for classical, but still good)
    "Pines of Rome"
Beethoven's "Eroica" (no, not "Erotica" :D . it was written in honor of Napoleon, then Beethoven scratched that idea)
Bach's Prelude and Fugue in C Major
if I think of any others later, I'll post them.

    and some non-classical ones:
    "Honor Him" from 'Gladiator'
The "Dungeon Siege" theme song (seriously) (it's sorta dark, Gladiator, 'cept for lively)

I actually think the "Dungeon Siege" theme (errr... might not the THEME per se, it's the song that starts whenever the action's about to pick up, song starts with short repeated minor strings) will work splendidly.

Maybe Air on a G string by Bach. Kinda mellow.
