I'm viewing my Activity Monitor with "My Processes" mode selected.

Every couple of seconds, the processes "cut, grep, and sh" pop up and disappear. What are those processes doing exactly?

azureus
coreduotemp
firefox (bon echo)
SteerMouse Manager

Okay I guess coreduotemp is the culprit. Just wasn't sure what those processes were doing.

okay anyone want to explain another part of Activity Monitor, specifically the Memory usage part.

I've got 1GB of ram installed. Activity Monitor currently shows 834mb under "Used". What do "Wired", "Active", and "Inactive" indicate?

In persona non grata
I had exactly this same issue. It's coreduo temp. Those processes that pop up and go away are the app accessing the core to read the temp, or something like that. Close coreduo temp, and it will stop.
