This may not be the right forum for this, but I was wondering if it's possible to add chapter marks to an existing M4V video file?

For example, I've encoded a DVD of mine that has no chapter marks. it's a bunch of old home movies compiled onto one DVD. So now I have encoded that file, is there any program that can add chapter marks and titles without having to re-encode the whole thing?

    Any help would be appreciated.

you can use the program "Metadata Hootenanny" to add chapter markers, however the mile will be stuck in .MOV not MP4. It will play fine, but there are other limitations in regards to metadata in .MOV.

Or, you can use Handbrake which has Chapter Marker Support and re-rip the DVD (if there were Chapter Markers on the DVD).

Hi there, Ive been searching for a solution to this chapter markers nightmare. I dont understand why they would cut that feature out in a so-called upgrade! But thats another story. From what Ive read about Metadata Hootenanny it works well with iDVD, but you said it had limitations in .mov....what does that mean exactly? Do the end movies burn ok and play in DVD players?

It has to do with adding artwork and information tagging in iTunes. I have no idea how it would would otherwise in iDVD.

There is a program called Simple Movie X which looks very good, and keeps the MP4 file extension.
I have bought it, but it seems to do a good job.

What feature are you talking about having been removed, the Chapter Additions in iMovie? From what I gather, you can export the movie to Garageband and add them there.
