    Hello,

Ok I feel kind of dumb posting this, but it is the newbie/basic area.. Bought some new speakers for my 20 inch intel iMac.. and plug them in.. and no sound coming from the speakers.. OK lets see they are powered.. i move them to my PC, plug them in.. and they work great.. back to the Mac.. and nada.. I hear the internal speaker in the mac working.. but nothing from the external speakers???

    Just to be sure:

You're plugging them into the headphone jack (closest to the side) and not the audio in (next to that), right?

If so, when you go to System Preferences...->Sound->Output, what do you see there?

No worries. The mistakes I still make with my Macs are legend. Glad to see that you got it to work!
