Is Dreamweaver essentially like iWeb with a lot more pro features?

Dreamweaver is absolutely nothing like iWeb. If you're not serious about web site design, you'll find it a waste of your time to even try to use it. It's very powerful, but also complicated.

You can download a free trial and try it out.

Do a few searches and read a little bit about it; you will see what I mean.

Yes and no. Yes in that it has WYSIWYG interface (as well as a code view). No in that iWeb outputs HTML, but doesn't work in HTML. The only way I really find them comparable though is that they both give you a web site.

Ok, I have a pretty good understanding of html, css, xhtml, and javascript. Would it still be a challenge for me to use it?

Try the demo/trial and you will see if it satisfies you or not.
