I have a Dell 5160(first laptop) with a blown motherboard. I was going to get it repaired but due to the price of the new mother board i decided not to. A laptop motherboard is a hassle to replace and is almost certainly not worth it. I just sold a fancy (also over $2k) Toshiba laptop with a blown motherboard on eBay as-is for parts. I got a couple hundred bucks. You're not likely to get any more than that, but it's better than nothing.

do an ebay search for "dell 5160" someone is parting it out there. You could get an idea of the prices, and see if they sell.
