Airplay with Core 2 Duos with the New Apple TV?

I know so far the Core 2 Duos (for example my Macbook Pro 13'' 2010) don't work with Airplay, but rumours suggest that that was due to having to downsample to 720p for the old Apple TV. With the new Apple TV supporting 1080p, doesn't this mean the processor has less work to do and therefore is there a possibility of this working on Core 2 Duos? I hope so!

    Any ideas?

The problem isn't on the Apple TV end of things. Your computer has to encode the stream into 720P or 1080P, depending on what you want to send to the Apple TV. The problem is Core 2 Duo's don't seem strong enough to encode on the fly.

I think it's too early in the Developer Preview for Airplay to become available on older Macs.

I run Airparrot in Lion using my 13" MBP (2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) and can Airplay to my Apple TV2 without any issue. There is some slight lag but it's not noticeable. It's actually very responsive.

It'll come to us in the released version of ML I'm sure.
