I find this also relatable to the area and demographic. I live in the city of Chicago and walking into a coffee shop, you'll see everyone does indeed have a Mac. Though I can easily link that to the fact that there are a good handful of colleges in the area and 2 of which are schools that offer Film as a major (all my friends that have went to school at either college are all die hard Apple users. I'll assume it's FCP X). They also have their own apple stores on campus so that helps.
On the flip side, when I go back to the outer suburbs of Chicago to visit my parents, you'll see a more even balance of Macs to PCs. I guess it's all about lifestyle and environment.
