One week from today, the third season of Alias begins, Sunday nights on ABC. Stars: Jennifer Garner, Michael Vartan, Victor Garber. Eleven Emmy nominations two years in a row.

Good-looking actors, lots of action, intrigue, double-crosses, plot twists, mysteries, daring spy operations, and of course James Bond style gadgets. Sometimes a little silly, but always fun. And series creator J.J. Abrams is a Macintosh fan, so he's obviously a good guy.

Who's a returning fan? Who hasn't watched it before but might give it a try?

I watched whole season 1 and liked it a lot. Here in Germany, we still have to wait for the second season. Even "24" is just running in it's first season... :(

I started watching last season. I enjoyed the few episodes that I did see.

I plan on watching it some more this season, though. :)

It seems to me that they would have been clever to release the Season 2 DVD in time to help with publicity for the start of season 3. But I read that the "Alias - The Complete Second Season" DVD is not scheduled for release until December 2, 2003.

How did you think of Alias's Interpretation of Germany?

It seems way more techonlogically advanced on TV then in real life (Well, then again I was there 5 years ago)...

Do you see it in english or German?

I seem to remember that Marshall had a girlfriend at the end of season two. Since two years have gone by, he has probably gotten up the nerve to take her out for coffee at least a few times. "Um, would you like to, I mean, maybe, well, I guess you wouldn't, but if you like coffee, I like coffee, we could maybe go to did you know they built a new Starbucks down the block, I think it's next to the cleaners, the one named Johnson's, they did a good job on my shirts, so we could go if we finish, I mean finish our work, I think, OK?"

I'm a returning fan, and I can't wait for the new season.

Talk about a strange cliff hanger, though. It'll be interesting to see how they tie everything together. But I'm sure they'll find some way for it all to make sense. The show's got great writing that isn't afraid of taking chances and making changes (like "Evil Francie" and getting rid of SD-6).

Edit: BTW, I was in Australia over the summer and they were airing "new" episodes from the beginning of season two.

#1 show I want to watch this season: Alias, Sunday nights, 9-10pm.

#2 show I want to watch this season: Carnivàle, Sunday nights, 9-10pm.

    Murphy's Law?

I've collected some Alias trivia tidbits (no, not spoilers - we should avoid them in these forums). Here are a few:

    * Ron Rifkin, who plays Arlin Sloane, read for the Jack Bristow part. J.J. Abrams wanted him for Sloane instead.

    * Kevin Weisman helped invent his own character, Marshall, who J.J. had originally envisioned as an ex-hippie hacker, more like Neo than the James Bond-type Q character.

    * Bradley Cooper's character, Will Tippin, learned about Sydney's secret life because of... fan reaction! People didn't like Will in Season 1 because Sydney was threatened by his reporter investigation. So the writers changed the story to make us happy. Hey, maybe J.J. is reading this thread right now and will do whatever the next person who posts asks!

More Alias trivia! (Part of my plan to build up interest for the new season and be rewarded with a job on the show as Kevin Weisman's new technical advisor.)

    * The character of Milo Rambaldi is a tribute to Carlo Rambaldi, the designer of E.T. and other special effects.

    * The symbol <0> is the sign of the "Magnific Order of Rambaldi". This symbol is shown in one frame of the opening credits, right before the word Alias appears.

    * The Season 1 story line about the missing page 47 of the Rambaldi manuscript was only one of the references to Alias's favorite number: 47. There are reportedly 47s in every episode. For example, in Season 2 Episode 13, "Phase One", Sloane's secrets are said to be stored in a computer: server number 47. (That's the episode that immediately followed the Super Bowl XXXVII and brought in a bunch of new fans, probably more for Jennifer's costumes than for the ongoing plot.)

    * The bio of Milo Rambaldi, who lived to be 52 (hmmm, not 47!), says he invented a "machine code" in the 15th century. Did it eventually evolve into the Power Mac G5? They don't say!

    Intresting.

I don't think I can see an 'ex-hippie hacker' though!

'Like, Dude, I totally Cracked the Server Man!'

One more day to go, so there's time for a few more trivia facts:

    * In Season 1, Esisode 10 ("Spirit"), Jack is ordered to shoot Sydney by arms dealer Ineni Hassan in Cuba. The scene was actually shot in the abandoned Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, which was the site of the very first Academy Awards ceremony on May 16, 1929, and was also the hotel in which Robert F. Kennedy was shot on June 4, 1968.

    * In Season 2, Episode 7 ("Counteragent"), the character of Marshall says "Do you know that polar bears can't be detected by infrared photography? Their fur emits no heat. Nothing. Nada. Zip." This fact is true.

    * The character of Marcus Dixon is red-green colorblind in his left eye. This means that one eye doesn't distinguish colors as well as the other (not that it sees only in black and white). Colorblindness in one eye, like total lack of color vision, is rare.

    * All Rambaldi artwork on the show is drawn by artist Andrea Dietrich. Here's a sample of her work. (I think it's a design for the Power Mac G5 fan system.)

    * Michael Va{ugh, rta}n: separated at birth? According to the show bios, the character of Michael Vaughn is a male Caucasian, 6'0", 180 pounds, speaks English and French, and grew up in Fleury, Normandy, France. His character dated Sydney Bristow. Actor Michael Vartan is a male Caucasian, 6'0", 180 pounds, speaks English and French, and grew up in Fleury, Normandy, France. The actor has reported dated Jennifer Garner. Could there be a more amazing coincidence?

Where did you get *that* from?

I don't remember any Time where he only used 1 eye and couldn't tell the colors!

I don't remember them mentioning Dixon's colorblindess in an episode. I got this detail from his bio, which is posted at ABC's main Alias site and is also on the DVD that comes with Alias Declassified, a book by Mark Cotta Vaz.
