Now I know that ths isn't a Mac-related topic, but would it be better if I posted this in DeviantART's forums...which didn't even work for a while? [IMG]

I do have my views of DeviantART, especially with regard to their updated site functionality (if at all), but I need alternatives.

A few features on the site are not available to dial-up users, such as myself.

I need a new art community.

I did an Altavista and a Google search, and I also checked out DeviantART's other art sites, but I have found nothing yet that works for me.

The community needs to have wallpaper, stock photos, forums, and especially ease of use. If possible, one with a section for humor/comedy would be appreciable.

I do like DeviantART, but it just takes sooooo long to load (I'm on 1Mb cable). It's very clever, has masses of content, but it is a bit on the slow side. I couldn't imagine trying to access on dial-up
I've never seen any other site quite like it though, so as for an alternative...I have no idea, sorry.

15 second responses to begin to load any one page, even if it is just one image. Then everything slowly loads.

There are a variety of problems with DA.

I have two accounts. Once I wanted to submit something, but I was in the wrong account. I logged out, then logged into the correct account. Submitted what I had to...take one damn guess as to which account it ended up in.

Also, ANY changes (exactly 100%) of any of your settings require an additional browser refresh before they show up.
On dial-up, that kills over 2 minutes of page loading.

Let's say you wanted to view stock photo thumbnails. Let's say, specifically, designs thumbnails. Well, when you click on the only visible option for showing more thumbnails, you get a page previewing the 24 most recent thumbnails...from EVERY category in DeviantART.

Another thing: When I loaded the stock photos page in my browser, the bottom of the page was cut off. You could not scroll down that low.

And more news...the right side of the page acts as a floating section of the viewable page, so it covers over the thumbnails and any central page text.

That is why I am asking for something like DeviantART, but something that works.

vniow, I am afraid that the sites you have provided so far are ineffecient for my needs. I need something with organized categories and subcategories that can be selected as soon as you come to the site.

digitalart.org is the closest I can find, but there aren't enough sections.

i'll second vniow's breedart suggestion, and deskmod had always been a nice place i liked to frequent, but they are down for a few months due to funding issues.

breedart, though, seems like a very tight, talented affiliation of artists... might be too much for you though, it sure would be for me.

I cannot find the Breed.org gallery. And I will not register with that level of competition.

Also, I did try out Deskmod, and found out that their desktops and galleries have been temporarily suspended after only about 10 minutes of site searching.

as well as Pixelgirl, but none of them have the features that DeviantART has.

DeviantART has become Microsoft + community with their latest update.

There is http://www.dpchallenge.com, but it is generally only photography, although you can post any kind of art in your portfolio. People there aren't quite as good at commenting as they are a DA.
