New Florida town would restrict abortion
Domino's founder building community around Catholic university

    Thursday, March 2, 2006; Posted: 11:36 a.m. EST (16:36 GMT)

The town of Ave Maria, shown in this artist's rendering, will include a large cathedral.

NAPLES, Florida (AP) -- If Domino's Pizza founder Thomas S. Monaghan has his way, a new town being built in Florida will be governed according to strict Roman Catholic principles, with no place to get an abortion, pornography or birth control.

The pizza magnate is bankrolling the project with at least $250 million and calls it "God's will."

    Nowhere else but Florida.

Yikes! I heard about this and didn't believe it :p Anyways, besides the blue hair's and freaking crazy traffic, Florida is actually a pretty nice place to live - at least on the west coast. Hmmm, Naples is on the west coast :D

Wackos. I get really tired of this s***. What the hell is wrong with people? I say let them move to their own little state and we'll ship them off into secession.

I think it's time to release the Noid to make sure this thing never gets off the ground.

What they don't tell you is that school uniforms will be mandatory (for everybody, not just kids); you will be required to genuflect at any crossroads (...think about it...); all the McDonalds', Burger Kings, etc., will be closed on Fridays (though Arthur Treacher's and Long John Silver's is still cool); and violation of local ordinances will be considered not felonies and misdemeanors, but mortal and venial sins. The favored form of execution for violating the former category is hanging by rosary.

I thought pornography was birth control?

I wonder if this is what Monaghan means by "strict Roman Catholic Principles" ...

Surely not my cup of tea, but if like-minded people want to do such a deal, whose business is it but theirs?

Fly-in communities, golf communities, religious communities...Who cares? What does it matter?

I think that is what they are wanting to do. So you should be happy that they are not living next door to you, I'm sure they probably are.

You can make your own Waco Tx about anywhere. Fl already has very liberal gun laws (couldn't resist the pun) so why not. Should they start to sacrifice speeders and jaywalkers, then shut them down. Nearly any group can do the same, because they are Christians makes it neither worse or better.

There sure are alot of paranoid Christian haters around here.

Excuse me stu, (you know I love you), but given recent events can you blame us? I mean, these people have hounded me since I was born, (I was raised fundamentalist) so please tell me why I should give them a break.

Cause they want to get away from you, leave you be, and remove themselves to their own. This way you and they get what YOU want.

Really? They want to leave us be? I don't buy that. They want to crush anyone they don't like. If it were a case of live and let live, I'd be for it. And as for being a Christian-hater, I'm becoming more and more so. I didn't used to be.

I agree that there are a large number or Christianphobics here, however I blame Bush's "conversion by the sword" approach for that. Didn't work 800 years ago for the Catholic church in the Crusaders, and hasn't been effective ever in history AFAIK.

At any rate, I question whether or not this is the 'will of God'. Being a Christian (Lutheran, not Catholic) I understand the will of God is for me to live my life within the world and share His love with all and His good news with any that will hear it. I don't see where sealing myself off from the outside world fits into what God calls His people to do in this life.

OH please, for every crappy example I can dredge up 2 good ones, Don't get wrapped around what the media wants to play up this week

When I refer to "they" I mean the specific ones willing to move into this "utopia".
Don't worry they won't bother your kids, or you, they are self segregating. Until they work up enough size and money, come out with Hummers with 50cal's mounted on'em, blazing megaphones of propaganda, mowing over all they can see, causing both mehem and chaos.

Golly! Lee, maybe you should mount a counter strike and kill'em all before they get you first!

If they make walls and seal themselves off, that would be wierd, if they simply want to live in a community of sames, then it would be historically insignificant.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Let them have some of the reddest states, like Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming and Utah.

Or even better, buy some land in the middle east and move them there so that they can make war with the other fundamentalistic religious people.

Dredge up two good ones, please. I really need to see them. It would honestly make me feel better stu. And I'm not kidding. I really want to believe that there are good, Christian organizations out there supporting people like me. And I'm not talking gay ones, like MCC. Show me the mainstrean Christian organization that leaves us alone.

Yes! If only moderate Christians could stand up and reclaim the religion focusing on what Jesus focused on and not all that other crap.

Not that I believe much in God or Jesus, but I know the world would be a better place if more people lived according to Jesus' teachings. (And not Paul's teachings or the old testament)

I hope they do, but so far their record is unconvincing.
