I agree on your point. That being said I need to look into being an Analyst. It seems like the job to have. In fact nearly 80% of MR users probably qualify for such a position.

We’re OVER qualified to be analysts :p

In fact, this “speculation,” although plausible, seems to be little more than “stuff that has been talked about but not yet happened, so hey, maybe this might be the time.”

Yet another analist pulls some random, pay-per-click-oriented speculation out of his a** and yet again Mac Rumors publishes it first page. Why am I not surprised?

These alleged Mac hardware updates are wishful thinking at this point. There seems to be just as many who feel the Mac Pro won't be updated until September.

But I really hope this rumor is true!

Well hopefully we can expect the new iPhone, but nothing else will be announced (as available immediately anyway), it would just be lost in the iPhone v4 publicity drive.

Announcements of future releases of existing products doesn't happen, kills existing sales. So no new MP or MBA, well not for 4 or 6 weeks after the iPhone release. AppleTV may get an announcement, but no immediate release. If it does change, don't think it's going to be anything like the speculation already seen here, that's one tiny device, but it's just too small for a mass market product under the telly, and the only improvement is the selling price.
Will it stop people using their Xboxes and PS3's ? Sorry, no.
Include DVD-R ? No, then everyone will shout they wanted BluRay.

Will it be pure streaming, well I'd hate to see it, but I'm not sure how much longer DVD or even BluRay will be around. I love my DVDs, but Film and TV Shows especially, are disposable. You watch one episode of CSI or whatever, do you then pay $50 for the full revent series on 6 or DVDs ? How many will you watch again ? Films might be diifferent. Could be a success if they sort the pricing out. Only a fool pays $10 to rent a movie through iTunes when you can buy the DVD for $5.

So - anybody have a track record of analyst predictions over the years? I seem to recall that Wu, specifically, lacks a certain amount of credibility.

You recall correctly. Wu basically keeps a tab of all the rumors and which have panned out and each time there's an announcement he horks out the rumors as the up and coming things. sometimes he proves right, sometimes wrong.

Mac Pro and Cinema Displays need an upgrade big time.
I hope Apple did not forget about the professional folks. :(
Anyway, I look forward to WWDC for many reasons.

....... so why is this on page one? This story (or at least the subject as gleaned from the title) seems kind of pointless given the above discredit. There are several threads in the forums with exactly the same amount of credibility about the Mac Pro and the MBA, why not link to those as well?

I see what you're saying, the guy is just speculating and he apparently doesn't have any solid information to back up his claim. Yawn. And we know the Mac Pro has been rumored of an imminent release for MONTHS now. This analyst is basically the boy who cried wolf. I think he just wants attention.

BUT, remember, you're on a discussion forum- on a website called MacRumors.

Should we talk about cars instead?

Wow all these rumored announcements today. I am laughing. Didn't Steve Jobs in his last quarterly financial call slip up at the end and say it is going to be an exciting month, after he was talking about an exciting year.

I mean - if he did say month, looks like a lot coming down the pike and all looking good for Apple.

What is an exciting month as defined by Steve Jobs... at least we know there will be no porn...

Apple's set of physical products is abysmally in need of updating. It would be nice if eventually Apple has 2010 Refreshes for all of their physical products, unveiling most of them at WWDC.

11 of their main 14 physical products haven't been refreshed yet this year: iPod Classic, iPod Touch, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle, Mac Mini, iMac, Mac Pro, MacBook Air, iPhone, Apple Cinema Displays, Xserve

Although I'm still mad there is no quad-core choice for MacBook Pro. I'm hoping something becomes available in November after Intel comes out with better versions of the applicable i5/i7 cpus.

Why is everyone jumping on the cloud bandwagon?

Why would I want to keep my 120gb of music in some data centre halfway across the world instead of my own hard drive?

I agree with you, it'd be cool to have it up there as like a backup...but I like having it too.

Well hopefully we can expect the new iPhone, but nothing else will be announced (as available immediately anyway), it would just be lost in the iPhone v4 publicity drive.

A couple of years ago I might have agreed with you. But the iphone isn't the supercool anymore. and with the Giz leaking all the stuff it really isn't.

this year I think the buzz in the phone realm will be software and services based. yes they will talk about the new specs but then probably follow it up with 'so theres the features, now here is why you should care' and give us more on the new OS, perhaps some new apps like ichat (all download it if you want it like ibooks), plus revealing why the heck they bought lala.com. if the apple tv really is going over the iphone OS it could be in all that mix.

on the mac side, they will probably talk pro apps updates, perhaps some consumer side stuff like a late update to ilife with an iweb that has an option for HTML5 coding etc. And releasing new Pro towers would go with this. Perhaps also the Air although frankly I think they should drop that one all together and focus on developing the regular laptops. Solid state is not yet cost effective and the optical drive is not yet dead. If they jump in on new compression tech and promoting the use of SD cards instead of disks then in a year or two the time for the ultra thin, no optical etc laptop would arrive. but it's just not right now. Especially not when the ipad will do for many the very basic stuff the Air can also do.

iTunes.com announcement at a developer event. Right.

Gotta love Analysts. They should always be page-two news, IMO.

My theory is the iTunes "Genius" was a trojan horse to get an estimate of the average size of people's iTunes libraries, so that they could figure out the logistics of a cloud based iTunes.

some cloud services are OK. why keep everything on a hard drive when you can make play lists to access your music over 3G or wifi. then just buy a smaller sized device so you don't have to carry all the data all the time

11 of their main 14 physical products haven't been refreshed yet this year: iPod Classic, iPod Touch, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle,

by tradition always done in the fall, typically mid to late September.

Mac Mini,

Oct 2009, across the board spec updates and new server model

Oct 2009, new screen sizes, new processors, etc.

traditionally updated in late june/early july

so really only 3 of the items on your list are due for an update as they haven't been in the last 12 months.

Although I'm still mad there is no quad-core choice for MacBook Pro.

is there even a mobile quad i5/i7 available. I recall one mention on giz about a month ago pointing to rumors but I haven't seen much 'on the market' info
