Was tempted to name this thread "Favorite Painting, February" as my favorites are always in flux.

In any case, my two at the moment, the first by Michael Deluca and the second by Ariel Dill (horrid cropping my fault) ...

Too many to choose from but off the top of my head I do like a bit of Rothko, Miró, Kandinsky, some Hockneys... Warhol (although not technically paintings)... oh and Magritte too.

But to address the gender balance two particular woman painters whose work I absolutely love are:

    Bridget Riley

    and... Paula Rego

My parents have a screen print of one of the other paintings in that series.
    It's about 5 foot across.
    I love Riley's work.

But my favourites are the Rothko's in the Tate Modern. I will go to the Rothko room whenever I'm in London.

Obviously these images do them no justice what so ever!

Dah! Stupid thread. I just killed 40 minutes trying to find a specific Magritte painting that I have since forgotten the title of. It features two such 'mannequins' like seen in The Cicerone but they're wearing red robes in a pinkish room w/ a window or two.

And I also really like this one (dunno what it's called, either ):

This last one I don't even know the artist's name... but some of his other works were controversial enough that people snuck into galleries to vandalize them!

AH!!! Thank you so much!!! A couple of semesters ago I had an assignment to copycat an existing painting... that is the one I chose. Thank you so much! :D I'm such a doofus for not knowing the title, though.

    That's a classic.

One of my favorites, and one which I actually own, is this one:

Yeah, I could never name just ONE painting but I have some favorite artists and I love all of their paintings! One artist in particular I admire is the talented Jordi Labanda...he paints a lot of cool stuff that is fun to look at, plus his paintings very trendy, which is why he has turned his paintings into great fashion accessories (purses, backpacks, clothing), rugs, and towels as well! He will even transfer his paintings into a killer paint job on a car. I would definitely let him paint some beautiful designs all over my Beetle! :)

ALL of his work and fashions are on his website:

    www.jordilabanda.com

I also found this page that displays some of his work!

I'm not really into paintings. I'm more of a 3d kind of guy. But for some reason I've always really liked this one, The Death of Marat by David:

As a bonus I'll throw in his actual deathmask:

Another vote here for Nighthawks. Plus I'll throw a little David Hockney and John Miller into the mix.

My all time favourite painting was one I saw in an art gallery in Warksworth Northumberland. It was a very basic sea scape - reminicant of Miller's work, but even simpler with really only the blended blues of the sky and sea, with a small sand bar in the middle right of the picture. I could stare at it for hours.
It was available for sale at £1000 and I was planning on buying it, but on return it had gone. I left without even enquiring who the artist was I was that disappointed - which was dumb. I've been trying to find out ever since...

I could pick several great Kandinsky paintings (Composition VII, Yellow Red Blue, Squares with Concentric Circles, etc), though this one (Balancing) is probably my favourite:

I also love the 'spot' paintings by Damien Hirst and wouldn't mind a Lysergic Acid Diethylamide for my living room!

Degas' ballet paintings, although I don't know that I can narrow it down to just one.
