Not sure what this will mean in terms of a shakeup in the Bush administration. Since Card was Chief of Staff, it could signal more staff changes down the road. However, most of the policy decisions came in consultation with people like Condoleeza Rice, Dick Cheney, etc....cabinet or elected officials. The only staff appointment I can think of that this might not bode well for is Karl Rove. And even that's highly speculative, since Bush is fiercely loyal to and dependent on Turdblossom.

And "fresh ideas"? Please. This is perhaps the most stubborn, unreceptive administration in history.

So what this is meant to accomplish...

I wouldn't read too much into it. Card was on the verge of becoming the longest-serving chief of staff in White House history. He's probably just worn out.

sounds like a good move for the WH: even if nothing actually changes, the appearance of change will sate some in the GOP for a while.

Yeah, that makes sense, bushco's numbers are the lowest of any second term president and we're supposed to believe that the departure of his chief of staff is just so he can promote a struggling governor. Of course it's all attributed to people close to him but they are unwilling to use their names and of course, posted on an extremist blog.

Find some neutral confirmation of this and I might take it seriously.

You obviously haven't been to Vancouver. Ok, so it gets chilly and rainy in the winter but it's actually somewhat warmer than Seattle and Grouse Mountain is right at your doorstep. Much less Wreck Beach...

I heard there was even some speculation that Card may be interested in running for governor... Mass? Somewhere around there.

As for what this means for the Bush administration -- not a lot. Bolton is from the same inner-circle that Card was, Bolton has been with the Bush campaign since before 2000.

Somehow I don't think this will satisfy the Republics who have been calling for a shakeup in the WH. They sense that their asses are on the line. If Bush doesn't turn things around they are in trouble since they are so closely aligned with Bush.
