Tremulous is free. Download it from Apple's download page.

How about the Marathon games from Bungie? Those are now free...and classics, mind you. Halo is a descendant (distant) of the Marathon games.

    Yessss!!!!

    http://www.nexuiz.com/

A suberb truly free game for Mac PC and Linux!!!

Nexuiz has been in development for close to 5 years by a team of amateur developers lead by Lee Vermeulen. It is a 3d deathmatch game made entirely over the internet. The purpose of the game is to bring deathmatch back to the basics, with perfect weapon balancing and fast paced action, keeping itself away from the current trend of realistic shooters. It uses HFX textures by Evil Lair, and currently has 17 maps to frag in. With an advanced UI, you can select between 15 different player models to use, with an average of two skins for each, and can connect to the master server to play people from all over the world.

I'm looking for something with some sort of story line... not just run around shooting everything that moves.

Like someone said, Marathon is good (and has a great storyline) but you might be a little turned off by its age.

Yeah its OSX and Intel native, the games are from the early 90s but the engine was rewritten (bungie released it as open source in 2001 I think) and now its OSX native, has opengl rendering and a bunch of other nice stuff.

Those extra downloads aren't required. However, they update the game with new sprites, higher resolution textures, etc...

You just downloaded the game engine... now you need data files to play, above the Mac OSX button there are three buttons "Marathon" "Durandal" and "Infinity", download marathon, copy the aleph one app into the folder with all the shapes/images/music/map/ files etc or viceversa and start playing, when you are done with that, get Durandal, then Infinity, if you just want to play online (yes it has online play :) ) just get Infinity.

There is mouse control but I'm used to old school all keyboard control (thats how I played the games originally so...)

I'm downloading it right now and it is very slow for me. I am just going to let it download over night and see what happens.

And from what I've read on the website, all SKUs are included in the same download file. So there is no seperate mac/unix/windows download.
