Are there any good racing games out there for the mac?

I will hopefully have a new powerbook in Jan. so it'll have to be one that'll run on that, although I foresee this won't be a big problem! :D

Not that I know of. Wipeout 2097 is arcade-like and is sorta playable, altho even on a G5, feedback is poor. I've tried Racer, but it crashes all the time.

not really. most racing games are PC and/or console only.

Funny, with dozens of racing games out there, the only one that's on Mac is, i think Nascar 4.

which is such a simulation that you might not like it. It's pretty hard if you're used to things like Gran Turismo or Need for Speed, where it makes driving an 800 HP RWD race-tuned and trimmed vehicle easy.

    :)

Total Immersion Racing is fun for a while. Needs analogue control, though. If you're planning on using the keyboard, racing on 'easy' mode is offset by the fact the steering is either 0% or 100% - you'll end up all over the place. Craziness.

    Still, it's entertaining.

I wish Pod Racer was OS X native. I really liked that game. Anyone know if it works okay under Classic.

Nascar 2003 and 2002 are good titles and F1 is not bad. The fact is racing on Mac is limited just as other segments in the gaming industry. Look at the flight simulators on the Mac if you want a good laugh. we have what 2 or 3 old stale titles while on the PC side there are literally dozens with new ones on the way all the time.

Ha ha.... how often I agree with Don't Hurt Me. :)

If you intend in NOT getting a PC for gaming, but own fast Mac and want to play racing games, then this is pretty much the line-up (from favourite to least, IMHO):
    1) Nascar Racing 2003
    2) Formula 1 CS 2000
    3) 4X4 Evolution 2
    4) Total Immersion Racing
    5) Ford Racing 2
    6) Spyhunter

    Anymore?

Yes, get Unreal 2004 and then race around the map using Mantas.

Well if you already have unreal tournament 2004, there are two racing mods.

    UnWheel and Anomaly Faction.

Read About Anomaly here and download the Mac .pkg.dmg here, both at Macologist. Note this is version 0.6, I'm not sure what the latest post MSU version is, you can check the thread.

I don't have an UnWheel link, but just look up contest winners for Non-FPS mod at www.makesomethingunreal.com , and you should find a link.
