I sent my powerbook to Apple to fix for me the other day because whenever I would pick the powerbook up it would make a horribly loud and unusual grinding sound, yes I said grinding sound! And, no it is not the HDD sudden motion kicking in.

Anyway, my status is "repair on hold, part on order." Based on the sound I was describing, can anyone offer an intelligent guess as to what part would be on order? Second, does anyone know how long it takes for parts to arrive, i.e., am I looking at a significant set back now in repair time?

Fan motor. Unless they are waiting on a small bearing I don't see why there would be a delay. Or there is a special bracket that they need.

What you could do if you really wanted to know is just contact the applecare phone line to find out, the can tell you specifically what part it is and the approx. wait time for it.
