    Hi,
    I have just inherited a PB 1400 running OS8.? and want to get an ethernet card working on it. I have a old 3com PCMCIA ethernet card 3CXE589DC and wonder is anyone could advise me how I can get the mac to work with this.

    At the moment when I insert the card I get a message saying the required software is not installed do I want to eject?

    How do I proceed from here?

    Thanks in advance.

    James

    Go to manufacturers website, look for Mac compatible downloads.

    I've got bad news for you. The driver download site says that there aren't ANY Mac OS drivers for this card.

    That was my original thought but I too drew a blank. I was hoping someone would say - Ah you need to run xyz from the setup cd or something similar.

    Well, you may be in luck. The 3CXE589DC drivers seem to be compatible with the 3C589.....and the Proxim PN595 (AKA Etherwave) uses the 3Com 3C589 chip set. So, you may find that the Mac OS drivers for the PN595 may recognize your Network card, a very possible maybe.

    Here's a link to the driver I found;

    http://www.workingwireless.net/wireless/Installers/Farallon PC Card/PCCard2.2.sit

    Seems to work with OS 8.1 and later & Powerbook 1400.

    Good Luck!
