so, I have about 1000 mail messages that I really want to keep for posterities sake.

Is there a way to move them from a pc to the mac? move to entourage, or will mail 2.0 import the mail boxes, if I find them and transfer them.?

What about this eurodar import and or / conversion?

mail.app has an option in the file menu that says "import mailboxes..." When you pick that, there should be an option for you to locate and select outlook express mail. Simple. :)

There are a couple of ways to approach this problem. You can upload all of your messages to an IMAP mail server and then download them in mail.app. You can get a free IMAP account from bluebottle.com to do this.

Alternatively, you can install Thunderbird (the free email client from Mozilla, the makers of the Firefox web browser) on your PC and import all of the Outlook Express mail into Thunderbird. Thunderbird uses the mbox file format to store mail, which is what Apple's mail.app uses. You simply need to copy over the mbox files from your PC and then use Mail's import feature to select the mbox files.

For only 1000 messages, I would try IMAP first. Just be sure to make copies of your email so you don't accidentally delete something in the process.

Copy the mbox files from your PC to your Mac and then, as QCassidy352 said, open Mail, under File choose Import Mailboxes, you'll get an window as pictured below, choose other and then select your mbox files from your PC's Outlook Express.

That won't quite work. Outlook Express doesn't use mbox files. The import option that is being referenced requires that you convert the Outlook Express .dbx files into the mbox file format. You can do that by using Thunderbird, or the .dbx converter program that I referenced with a link. Once you have your mail in an mbox file on the PC, you can copy it over to the Mac and use the "import other..." option to import messages from that mbox file.

Your simplest option would still be to upload your mail files to folders on an IMAP account and then download the messages into folders in Mail.app.

My Bad. I though Express used mbox files. I guess I was using Entourage or Eudora when I switched over a few years back
