inspired by the $10,000,000 thread i'm curious whether anyone here has won the lottery--not necessarily a gigantic multi-million dollar jackpot, just anything or w/e. my grandma's played the regular ol' texas lottery every week for as long as i can remember, but i don't think she's every won anything lol. i can understand if you don't want to admit to having won to prevent cyberbegging and such, but just thought it'd be interesting to find out. :D

When I was ten or so I got the Powerball number right and got a dollar. But my mom kept it, cause it was technically her ticket, even though I was the one who picked the numbers.Only thing I ever won I didn't get to keep. :( Bah. It was just a dollar.

I won a couple towels once at Bi-Mart. Still got them too. That was it for my winning spree.

Some women in another department at my work got five numbers and the bonus ball and won £46k each. Most i've ever won is a tenner though.

I had a roommate in college who won a grand. That type of $$$ when you are a student can burn a hole in your pocket.

    I've never won a dime.

I don't gamble--so I've probably won much more than the people here who have.

I don't buy lottery tickets, or gamble really. Maybe $5 a month wouldn't kill me, especially considering what the rewards can be.

I've won minor stuff from charity raffles and the like though.

i once won a stuffed animal, but one which would cost 30 dollars or so that was a major score for a kid

i met a man who received a major million dollar+ settlement after an accident that nearly killed him and the first thing he did was buy 10,000 lottery tickets/numbers and he won $10,000,000 dollars and was one of the first major winners in california when it became legal

at the local drug store the manager used to spend $10 dollars every week on scratchers/tickets and overall he lost out over many years...but he put it this way:

"people spend $1.50 on coffee or cigarettes every day and i don't because i put in ten dollars a week on lottery/scratchers and i get just as much fun and i don't hurt my health, every few months i win $50 dollars or even $100 dollars and i go and buy something nice for the wife or kids...a couple times in the past years, i have won $5,000 dollars, $3,000 dollars, and a few $1,000 dollar wins and took the family on a nice vacation, got a used car, or bought special gifts...i never have the discipline to save up any large chunk of money since i get paid $10 dollars an hour as the manager here so this is how i have fun and get cars from time to time, or go on how many people do you know who give up smoking/coffee daily, make ten dollars an hour, but have been to hawaii a couple of times and bought a three year old used car (honda accord in mint condition from old lady who never drove it) just like that on a friday?"

listening to his logic, i felt pretty stupid on the chump change i have spent on beer, donuts, or soda, or my wife on starbucks coffee, or my best friend's daily cigarette hobby...and last time i checked, none of us three just flat out bought a three year old used car without planning to, or been to hawaii on a whim with the family

i searched through my mba textbooks, revisted the time i was a vp, and looked at this guy who did more with less than $1.50 a day than anybody i have ever met

recent high tech stocks pay off less than las vegas or the lottery historically, and if fortune magazine/suzie orman/and others inclucluding the realtors down the street are right, real estate could hit a major downturn and more peole will end up losers than winners on their long term housing investments (in most areas if people bought real estate after the mid-90s in the united states)

while i won't buy lottery tickets or scratchers, i won't laugh at them either since i know a few people who put all their money into yahoo, micrsosoft, and cisco when they were, well, up there...and in an instant made more money in a year than they did in a lifetime, and in an instant lost more money than they could make in two lifetimes ;)

not only is that a good point, but it is an excellent way of looking at a life which most would not consider ideal.

When I was in HS (or maybe a little younger) my dad won about $1600 in the lottery by matching 5 numbers. At the time (more than 20 years ago) it seemed like a huge windfall.

Me, I've won a $10 scratch off once, and few $2 or $5 here or there, but I don't play very often.

I did win a new set of golf clubs in a raffle about 8 years ago, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

My friend just won a PSP that he bought for the raffle.

    So, he spent about $250
    Donated it
Got paid back (everyone in charge gave him $10 which was about $230 and someone gave him $20 so he got $250)
He spent $20 on tickets for the raffle
    And won

SO he purchased a PSP for about $25.

Last year, my friend won a 15 GB iPod 3G for $4.

Once, in camp, I purchased a liter of soda, then won a free two liter bottle, and with the free bottle I won another two liter bottle, and I won another liter from that.

I ended up with 5 bottles, but only ONE cap because you need to return it if you win. So, I gave it to friends.

And, I won over 60 iTunes songs combined from both years from Pepsi.

And my mom won $10 from a lotto ticket.

I won 291,000,000 ROL in October 2003, which at that time was... about 10,000 USD  (neat exchange rates, huh?). After I bought a cell phone (which eventually got stolen), I decided to keep the rest for later. It's all in a bank and I can't touch it until I'm legal. THE END

I've won $80.00 playing the lottery once. I think I got 4 out of 6, I was a bit disappointed because I thought I was gonna get at least a thousand.

I personally hate lotterries, I think everyone who has a considerable ammount of money should have earned it by working for it. But then again, people can choose to spend their money any way they want, though you can't help but wonder what good could be done with the money won in these lotteries. I mention that because the man who holds the record for the biggest single payout,(Jack Whitacker) won over 300 millions a few years ago and he was later caught in strip bars all the time. I guess it would put me more at ease if only honest people with money problems won the lottery. The kind of people who had big aspirations to become wealthy but had to put it off to raise a family and sacrificed alot.

P.S. I once bought $100 dollars in Mega Millions tickets when the jackpot was over 100 Million    .

My uncle won about $1,000,000 playing the dollar slots at Atlantic City. I don't gamble (I've been to a casino once), but my understanding is that it was some kind of set of linked slot machines where the overall prize keeps going up until someone wins (or doesn't).

    He was exceedingly happy.

He used the money to get laser eye surgery, pay off the morgage on his house, and take more vacations to England (he lives in New Jersey).
